Visit of the Panamanian Delegation: February 16 – 20, 2026
In the framework of the 19th National Science and Technology Congress held in Panama in September 2023, at the invitation of the then Italian Ambassador, a panel dedicated to the Trieste Scientific System was organized.
The following participated remotely in the panel: Nicola Casagli (President of OGS), Stefano Fantoni (President of FIT), Atish Dabholkar (President of ICTP), Vittorio Venturi (ICGEB), Silvina Ponce (President of IUPAP), and Andrea Romanino (Director of SISSA).
Subsequently, in November of the same year, a delegation from the University of Panama visited Trieste, where they met with scientific representatives from the following institutes: Trieste International Foundation for the Advancement and Freedom of Science (FIT), National Institute of Oceanography and Experimental Geophysics (OGS), International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP, UNESCO Category 1 Institute), International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), Elettra Sincrotrone, International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA).
On that occasion, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Trieste International Foundation and the University of Panama.
In February 2024, at the invitation of the Italian Embassy in Panama, Elisabetta Gregoric (Project Manager of the Quantitative Sustainability Laboratory -TLQS), traveled to Panama to present the scientific and innovative system of Friuli-Venezia Giulia and the TLQS to the following institutions: the International Summer School of the University of Panama, the City of Knowledge Foundation, the Technological University of Panama, the National Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Innovation, and the Higher Technical Institute.
From February 16 to 20, 2026 a new Panamanian delegation visited Trieste and it was composed of:
Mairim Solís, Vice President of APANAC (Panamanian Association for the Advancement of Science)
Professor of Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Stem Cells Applied to Regenerative Medicine and Health, Gorgas Memorial Institute
Miguel Ángel Esbrí, Professor of Civil and International Law at the University of Panama
Luisa Morales, Professor of Mathematics at the University of Panama
Keila Chacon Rivadeneira, PhD student in Mathematics at the University of Barcelona
The delegation was accompanied by Dr. Gregoric to all meetings and scientific visits to OGS, FIT, ICTP, ICGEB, the Universities of Trieste and Udine, Elettra Sincrotrone, SISSA, and TWAS.
The week ended with a round table discussion on “Sustainability and the oceans.”
